Even if they kidnap us all, there’s no vacancy in Aso Rock, says Edo gov

Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo State urged those responsible for the country’s insecurity to stop their activities and allow the presidency to concentrate on governance. The statement was made on Tuesday in Benin City during the launch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for local government council elections in the Edo South Senatorial District.

Okpebholo said the sudden rise in insecurity had been orchestrated to damage President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. He warned that promoting insecurity would not secure seats in the Senate, the House of Representatives, or the presidency, noting that “there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.” He added, “They can even kidnap all of us—yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition. They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well.”

The governor also praised President Tinubu, claiming the president had done more for the country than his predecessors. He highlighted the visible impact of the removal of the fuel subsidy on various state projects and commended those who advanced through the party’s primary elections to become candidates for the upcoming council elections. Okpebholo said their victories could help deliver the 2.5 million votes pledged to President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

APC Chairman Jarrett Tenebe also spoke, describing the party as the only viable option in the state. He urged candidates to carry the governor’s developmental message to every corner of the state and to replicate it in their local government areas.

The event’s highlight, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), was the official unveiling of the Edo South APC candidates by the governor. The list included Ogbeide Ihama for Senate, Dr. Paddy Iyamu for Oredo federal constituency, and Omorede Igbinedion for Ovia federal constituency, among others.
