Ebonyi govt sets up anti Exam malpractice team for WAEC

By Jeff Agbodo, Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State Government has launched a task force and monitoring team to supervise activities during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) across the state.

Commissioner for Education Dr Donatus Chukwuma Ilang, who inaugurated the committee, said the team will monitor students, principals and other stakeholders involved in the examination to ensure strict adherence to examination guidelines.

Dr Ilang instructed team members to uphold the integrity of the state and the Ministry of Education by maintaining a zero‑tolerance policy toward examination malpractice.

He cautioned officials against compromising standards through bribery or negligence, emphasizing that all monitoring actions must conform to WAEC regulations and government policies.

The commissioner also directed the team to conduct its duties thoroughly and to ensure that anyone implicated in malpractice is apprehended and referred to the appropriate authorities.

Speaking for the team, Permanent Secretary of the ministry Mrs Mary Ngozi Otozi thanked the commissioner, describing his action as a commitment to restoring discipline and credibility in the education sector.

Mrs Otozi assured both the ministry and the public that the team will perform its responsibilities professionally and that schools throughout the state will be effectively monitored during the examination period.

The monitoring team has been allocated to the Ebonyi Central, Ebonyi North and Ebonyi South senatorial zones, with security personnel attached to support the operation.
