DSS grilled Prof Ndibe over 2013 watch-list – Source

New information surfaced on Monday night regarding an encounter between the Department of State Services (DSS) and Professor Okey Ndibe at the airport. A source close to the matter refuted claims that the well‑known writer was arrested or detained, stating that he departed the airport in less than thirty minutes after a routine security interaction.

The account contradicts earlier reports that Ndibe was held by the DSS, suggesting instead that the meeting was connected to a pre‑existing watch‑list record and was part of an ongoing review within the agency.

According to sources, Ndibe arrived in Nigeria from the United States at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday and was briefly questioned by security officials as part of standard border‑control procedures.

The source added: “Upon arrival from the United States, today June 1, at 11.30 a.m., he was routinely questioned in line with international best practices at the border control. Prof Ndibe departed the airport barely 30 minutes after procedural engagement.”

“The DSS action, according to the source, stems from a Watch‑List Action (WLA) that was initiated on him in 2013 during President Jonathan’s administration but has recently been downgraded by the present DG DSS.”

It was also reported that the current DSS leadership has ordered a review of longstanding watch‑list records, with part of the process involving engagement with affected individuals as a step toward their eventual removal from the list.
