A brief dispute unfolded at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday when two lawyers represented the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a lawsuit brought by the Board of Trustees (BoT) led by Senator Adolphus Wabara against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Presided over by Justice Salim Ibrahim, the case seeks a court order directing INEC to list the Kabiru Turaki‑led interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP on its official website.

The BoT and the PDP jointly filed the new suit.

The plaintiffs requested that the electoral umpire immediately update its records and publish the interim NWC on its official website, as the list had been forwarded to INEC by the plaintiffs and the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

They noted that the names of the Kabiru Turaki‑led NWC members were sent to INEC in letters dated May 4.

The originating summons, identified as FHC/ABJ/CS/1159/2026, was filed on June 4 by a legal team headed by Chief Chris Uche, SAN.

The plaintiffs include former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, BoT Secretary and former Niger State Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, former Minister of Information Prof. Jerry Gana, and PDP chieftain Olabode George, listed as the first to fourth plaintiffs.

Additional plaintiffs are former Minister of Women Affairs Hajiya Maryam Ciroma, former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Hajiya Zainab Maina, BoT and NEC member Dame Esther Uduehi, and the PDP, listed as the fifth to eighth plaintiffs.

INEC is named as the sole defendant.

When the case was called on Friday, Chief Gordy Uche, SAN, announced that he would represent all eight plaintiffs, including the PDP as the eighth plaintiff.

Shortly after Uche’s announcement, Mr. Sunday Ameh, SAN, also stood and declared that he would represent the eighth plaintiff, the PDP.

The development caused some confusion in the courtroom.

Tanimu Turaki, the factional national chairman of the PDP, and Prof. Jerry Gana, among others, were present at the Friday proceedings.

Details later.
