…Orders police, military, NSCDC to begin joint show of force
Deputy Inspector‑General of Police for the South‑West, Adegoke Fayoade, cautioned Osun State lawmakers that they must not shelter criminals as the 2026 governorship election approaches, affirming that security forces will not accept violence or lawlessness.
He instructed Osun State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan to coordinate with other security bodies to launch frequent joint displays of force throughout the state, aiming to deter criminal activity.
The warning was issued on Friday at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, which was organized to tackle growing political tension before the governorship election.
Attendees included officials from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Federal Fire Service, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and political parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Accord Party did not attend.
Earlier that week, the Police Commissioner had called a peace conference with political stakeholders, but the APC and Accord Party were absent, leading the DIG to organize the wider security meeting on Friday.
