Dickson, Kwankwaso meet over NDC unity

Senator Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), convened an extensive meeting with former Kano State governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and senior NDC officials to strengthen party unity.

The discussion, which took place at Dickson’s residence, was part of ongoing efforts to reconcile party leaders in Kano State ahead of the 2027 elections, where the NDC’s presidential candidate is Peter Obi.

In a Facebook post summarising the talks, Dickson explained that the gathering was intended to keep the party’s Kano leadership and its vice‑presidential candidate, who also serves as the state leader, aligned during a pivotal moment for the party.

He noted that the NDC is rapidly becoming Nigeria’s leading opposition party, and that disagreements are expected as the movement expands. “We are accustomed to managing such challenges through dialogue, consultation, and reconciliation,” he wrote. “That is what I have been doing, not only in Kano State but across the nation for the past months.”

Dickson emphasised that the party has never imposed candidates on any state, including his home state of Bayelsa, and that democratic processes have been respected.

He also highlighted the long history of collaboration between him and Kwankwaso, dating back to their time in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) when both served as governors. “Over the years we have maintained a close relationship, regularly visiting one another, sharing confidences, discussing national issues, and planning political engagements,” he said.

Both leaders confirmed that the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the Obidient Movement—two influential support networks—will be formally integrated into the NDC. Dickson mentioned that he had received a delegation from the Obidient Movement and had promised their inclusion, and that he has now asked Kwankwasiyya to forward a list of coordinators to the party.

“Everyone is welcome in the NDC,” Dickson said. “We deeply appreciate the support, commitment, and participation of all our members, stakeholders, support groups, and volunteers.”

This meeting follows a series of consultations led by the NDC National Leader across the country, aimed at bolstering internal cohesion ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
