A delegation from Defence Headquarters (DHQ), led by Chief of Administration (Army), Major General I.M. Abdullahi, visited the family of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar (retired) and the Katsina State Government on Sunday to offer condolences following the officer’s death.
Joint Task Force (North West) Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the delegation conveyed the condolences of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General O.O. Oluyede, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the state government to the bereaved family, the Katsina State government and its people.
At the family residence in Katsina, Major General Abdullahi described Major General Abubakar as a dedicated, patriotic officer who served the nation with distinction in a variety of roles during his military career. He noted the deceased’s significant contributions to the development of the Nigerian Army and the country’s security architecture.
Major General Abdullahi assured the family of the military’s continued support throughout the mourning period and highlighted that Major General Abubakar had served the army and the nation meritoriously for more than thirty years, leaving a legacy that will inspire future officers and soldiers.
The delegation presented a national flag to the family in recognition of the late officer’s service and sacrifice.
Alhaji Dikko Mu’azu Ruma, the Gado da Masun Katsina, thanked the Chief of Defence Staff and the AFN for their support and solidarity, expressed gratitude for the military’s presence during a difficult time, and prayed for the peaceful repose of Major General Abubakar’s soul.
Earlier, the delegation visited the Katsina State Government House, where they were received by Deputy Governor Mallam Faruk Lawal Jobe on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda. Major General Abdullahi conveyed the condolences of the Chief of Defence Staff and the AFN to the governor, the government and the people of Katsina State over the loss of one of the state’s distinguished sons.
Deputy Governor Jobe described the death of Major General Abubakar as a painful loss to both Katsina State and the nation, noting the late officer’s commitment to national service and security would continue to inspire future generations. He called for greater collaboration among stakeholders to address security challenges and combat criminal activities across the state and the country, and assured the military of the state government’s ongoing support for security operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the North‑West.
Major General Abdullahi thanked the state government for its support of the military in the fight against insecurity, emphasizing that cooperation between the military and state authorities remains vital to achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
Special prayers were offered at both the family residence and the Government House for the peaceful repose of Major General Rabe Abubakar.
Attendees included Major General W.B. Idris, Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma; Major General B.P. Koughna, General Officer Commanding 8 Division; Rear Admiral A.M. Haruna; Air Vice Marshal A.Y. Abdullahi; Major General J.S. Bindawa (retired); Brigadier General S.K. Usman (retired); and Air Vice Marshal I.S. Kaita (retired). Family members, traditional rulers and other prominent Katsina State figures also attended the visits.
