‘I’m sorry, my daddy’ – Desmond Elliot apologises to Gbajabiamila

Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot publicly apologized to his political mentor, the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, for any offence he may have caused during their political interactions.

He delivered the apology on TVC’s “Your View” programme on Friday, explaining that any misunderstanding was unintentional and reaffirming his dedication to party unity and development in his constituency.

The apology comes after earlier political tensions related to the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis, during which Gbajabiamila revealed that he almost lost his position at the Presidency due to allegations tied to Elliot’s political activities.

Gbajabiamila said President Bola Tinubu had confronted him over intelligence reports that suggested Elliot was involved in attempts to impeach Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, a claim he denied at the time.

During the programme, Elliot explained that he entered politics under Gbajabiamila’s guidance, calling him his “egbon,” and acknowledged that emotions and misunderstandings may have contributed to their differences.

“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said.

He added that mistakes are inevitable in political relationships.

“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way,” he said.

Elliot also apologized to the “matriarch of Surulere,” expressing regret for any offence he may have caused.

“To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,” he said.

Despite issuing the apology, the lawmaker said he remains focused on strengthening the party and fulfilling his mandate to constituents.

“But I will keep keeping the party strong. And to all Surulerians, my scorecard is there. You know the things I’ve done to make Surulere a better place,” he added.
