On Saturday, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, was confirmed as the All Progressives Congress candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, running unopposed.
The decision was announced by APC members in all 13 electoral wards of the constituency, which include Bende, Itumbuzo, Uzuakoli, Umuhu, Ozuitem, Umeimenyi Nkpa, Igbere A, Igbere B, Item A, Item B, Item C, Alayi and Ugwueke Ezeukwu.
According to a statement from SA Press Affairs to Deputy Speaker Udora Orizu, the exercise took place across the 13 wards in the afternoon, with large numbers of party members gathering at their ward offices to participate.
Stakeholders, ward executives and delegates praised Kalu’s leadership, legislative record and dedication to grassroots development.
They said his unopposed candidacy reflected the confidence placed in him by APC members and constituents.
They highlighted that his tenure brought significant projects, bolstered party cohesion and raised the constituency’s profile at the national level through effective representation.
After his candidacy was affirmed, Kalu thanked party supporters, community leaders, youth and women groups, and his constituents for their ongoing support and trust.
He reaffirmed his pledge to deliver more democratic benefits, foster inclusive governance and advance policies that will enhance welfare and economic prospects for the people of Bende.
