Benjamin Kalu, the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, secured the All Progressives Congress nomination to run for the Bende Federal Constituency seat in Abia State in the 2027 election.
Having been elected in 2019 and re‑elected in 2023, Kalu was chosen as the APC candidate on Saturday without opposition.
The selection was made by delegates representing the 13 political wards within the Bende Federal Constituency.
The voting began late in the afternoon and was overseen by Erasmus Cishak, the APC electoral panel chairman for Abia. The process was largely peaceful in the areas inspected by DAILY POST.
After his win, Kalu addressed journalists at the APC office on Saturday evening, pledging to build upon his accomplishments in Bende should he be re‑elected.
Kalu acknowledged that his opponents were formidable but cautioned that the residents of Bende Federal Constituency should not overlook the importance of electing a senior representative to the National Assembly.
He also emphasized that the National Assembly would keep collaborating with the executive led by President Bola Tinubu to advance national progress.
During remarks about the primary, Erasmus Cishak praised the aspirants and their supporters from Abia for their peaceful behavior.
Cishak also expressed satisfaction that the participants and their supporters acted in the party’s interest.
