The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has begun enforcing the ban on vehicles that lack registration number plates, as well as those that display concealed, obscured, altered, defaced, or otherwise unreadable plates, in Asaba and its surrounding areas.
The police say the operation is part of a broader effort to strengthen public safety, prevent crime, and improve vehicle identification for security purposes.
As a result of the exercise, 26 vehicles that were found to be operating in violation of existing vehicle registration regulations have been impounded.
The offending motorists were subsequently arraigned before a Mobile Court sitting in Asaba for the relevant offences.
Speaking during the operation, Oyeniyi urged vehicle owners to comply with registration requirements and to display approved number plates properly.
He emphasized that the enforcement aims to enhance security and promote legal compliance.
Oyeniyi also warned that the Command would continue the operation across Delta State and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to ensure strict compliance with the directive across all Area Commands, Divisions, and tactical formations.
