Delta State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents that his command would continue to implement aggressive mobilisation and strategic measures to protect lives and property in the state.

Oyeniyi made the statement while meeting the Editor‑in‑Chief and Managing Director of Lagos‑based The Supreme Newspaper, Mr Aruga Joe Omokaro, in his office in Asaba.

He emphasized that security is a shared responsibility and that the police, under his leadership, will pursue collaborative efforts with all relevant stakeholders, including other security agencies, to combat crime and promote peace in the communities.

Oyeniyi also acknowledged the vital role of media practitioners in safeguarding lives and property and in fostering social cohesion that supports economic and other activities.

Earlier, Mr Omokaro, speaking on behalf of The Supreme Newspaper’s management, expressed confidence in Oyeniyi’s appointment to Delta State a few months ago, noting that his authority had already been established.

He highlighted that the CP’s adoption of a community policing strategy has begun to yield noticeable results, with a visible decline in violent crime across Delta State.

Omokaro said: “Since February 2026, when you were deployed to Delta State, we have observed a significant increase in peace. Violent crimes have fallen to a tolerable level, thanks to your extra commitment to rid the state of criminal elements. In addition, the crime reduction is a result of your community policing strategy.”

He urged a closer working relationship between the Delta State Police Command and The Supreme Newspaper, noting that the publication has a wide media reach across the country and beyond, and has forged robust partnerships with the Nigeria Police, the EFCC, and other security agencies as well as the Presidency.

“We would like your Command to partner with the management of The Supreme to establish a more robust working relationship between your command and our newspaper. We have extensive coverage, especially within police formations across the country, and with other national security bodies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the military, and the Presidency. Our coverage also extends beyond the shores of Nigeria,” he added.

The publisher of The Supreme Newspaper, a Delta State native, prayed for divine wisdom and health to enable Oyeniyi to excel as Delta State Commissioner of Police and to contribute meaningfully to national security.

The Delta State Police Command spokesman, Mr Bright Edafe, a superintendent of police, and several media members witnessed the event.
