Obi Aguocha, the National Assembly member for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal constituency, urged Igbo families and communities to protect themselves from bandit attacks.

According to the DAILY POST, two residents from Aguocha’s hometown of Ohuhu in Umuahia North Local Government Area—Dennis Izuchukwu Okechi and Mrs. Onyinyechi Ekechukwu—were rescued from the bush after being kidnapped by suspected bandits on Thursday night.

In a statement released on Friday, Aguocha warned that other Igbo communities could also fall victim to these intruders.

He expressed concern that Uche Amaechi, a victim of a kidnapping in the Akpahia community, remains missing five weeks after his abduction.

“Insurgency is coming to Ala Igbo, and what I am saying is that we should defend our families and communities. We can no longer stay silent because if we keep quiet, these people can come in and strangle us in our sleep,” Aguocha said.

“This thing that is happening in Oyo and other places has started here, and we cannot remain quiet. We must rise in defense of our communities,” he added.

Aguocha acknowledged the government's efforts but stressed that every Igbo community must remain vigilant and ready to defend itself against terrorist threats.
