Otunba Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, said yesterday that he has reached a point of no return in his effort to return to the National Assembly as the senator for Ogun East.

Daniel, who is currently the senator for the district, stated that he is prepared to contest other aspirants for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in Ogun East.

The declaration was made during the BAT/OGD Movement Mid‑Term Assessment Tour and Empowerment Programme for residents of the Ogun East Senatorial District.

The programme, attended by APC leaders, members and residents of Ijebu Ode, distributed empowerment items such as sewing machines, fertiliser, farm implements, freezers and other equipment.

Daniel, who obtained a nomination form for the Ogun East senatorial primary, has been screened and cleared by the APC Screening Committee.

He noted that, under the Electoral Act, the power to select the party’s candidate rests with all card‑carrying members of the APC.

Highlighting development projects he facilitated in Ijebuland both as governor and as senator, Daniel said Ogun East would continue to benefit from his interventions if he is re‑elected.

He urged party members to go to their respective wards on primary day, bring their membership cards and vote for the candidate they prefer.

“I have reached the point of no return on the contest. The meeting we are holding today is for all members of the party. On the day of primary, take your membership card, go to your ward and cast your vote for the person you want,” Daniel said.

“I have heard that you will be scared from voting – don’t worry. If you do not go out to vote for who you want to represent you, do not come to me and tell me that the person is not doing well. You have the power to control it now. Do not be intimidated. It is a contest and we are going to face it.”

Various speakers at the event praised Daniel for the developmental projects he implemented in Ijebuland during his tenure as governor and as senator.
