Dangote Refinery Lowers Diesel Prices Amid Growing Hope for Fuel Cuts

Dangote Refinery has lowered the gantry price of automotive gas oil, commonly referred to as diesel.

The large refinery cut the diesel price to N1,600 per liter, down from N1,800.

Chinedu Ukadike, spokesperson for the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, confirmed the price reduction to DAILY POST on Thursday.

With a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the refinery’s cut amounts to N200, or 11.76 percent, per liter.

Retail diesel prices, which previously hovered between N1,800 and N2,000 per liter, are expected to decline across the country.

The reduction offers a glimmer of hope for a decline in premium motor spirit prices as well.

DAILY POST reports that fuel prices in most filling stations in Abuja and its environs ranged from N1,350 to N1,365 per liter.

Domestic volatility in petrol product prices is tied to global energy price uncertainty stemming from the Middle East crisis that began on February 28, 2026.

The conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has triggered a significant shock in global energy markets.

At the time of reporting, Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude oil prices were $95 and $90 per barrel, respectively.
