Dabo Secures PDP Nomination for Bauchi South Senate Seat, Set to Face Bala Mohammed and Abdullahi

A former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Bauchi State, Danjuma Adamu Dabo, has secured the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) nomination for the Bauchi South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Dabo, a grassroots politician and philanthropist, recently defected to the opposition PDP after sustained pressure from supporters who urged him to represent the South senatorial district in the National Assembly’s Red Chamber in Abuja.

The nomination ceremony, held in Bauchi town on Wednesday, attracted a large crowd of supporters, party faithful, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, representatives from the party headquarters in Abuja, and state party officials, among other stakeholders.

Dr. Dabo was elected unanimously through a consensus process, and his selection was subsequently ratified by the congress committee in accordance with party guidelines and the Electoral Act.

His emergence as the PDP flag‑bearer adds a new dimension to the contest in Bauchi South Senatorial District.

He will face Bauchi governor Bala Muhammad of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, the APC candidate for Bauchi South in the 2027 elections.

The PDP State Congress also hosted the seven PDP aspirants for the Bauchi State House of Assembly, PDP members from the seven local government areas, and officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies.

Dr. Dabo, founder of the Danjuma Dabo Foundation—a philanthropic organization that provides free education for indigent students and orphans in Bauchi—first contested the senatorial seat in 2023 on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

He previously served as the executive director of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and as the National Implementation Advisor to the World Bank‑funded Better Education Service Delivery for All (BEDSA) program under the Universal Basic Education Council (UBEC).
