The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun 1 Area Command reports that it intercepted 10,126 parcels of cannabis sativa, valued at a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N743,400,000, across various locations in the state.

Area Comptroller Mr. Olukayode Afeni disclosed the operation while handing the seized cannabis to Mr. Williams Ekundayo, Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Idiroko Special Area Command, on Tuesday.

Afeni noted that cannabis sativa, commonly known as marijuana, is a psychoactive substance that can have severe effects on users.

He described the action as a preventive measure rather than a seizure.

“Without this intervention, society would confront a wave of drug‑related crises that would further strain an already overstretched healthcare and rehabilitation system.

“Its availability would increase drug‑related health problems and overwhelm our already strained psychiatric and rehabilitation facilities,” the comptroller added.

Upon receiving the cannabis, Ekundayo said the seizure represented another milestone in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

He praised the Customs officials involved and reiterated the need for greater cooperation between the NDLEA and the Customs Service.

Ekundayo warned individuals involved in such illicit activities to cease their actions, emphasizing, “If they persist, they will be arrested by law‑enforcement agencies.”
