The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has organized a security summit in Kebbi State to tackle ongoing attacks by terrorists and other criminal groups in border communities.
The inaugural meeting was held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi and brought together security agencies, traditional leaders, and government officials to discuss ways to enhance security and safeguard lives and property.
Comptroller‑General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, represented by Deputy Comptroller Timi Bomadi, explained that the summit was designed to strengthen cooperation among stakeholders, including the military, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), traditional institutions, and the state government.
He noted that security personnel and civilians have lost lives in repeated attacks by bandits and terrorists targeting checkpoints in the state’s border areas.
“Security reports indicate that our officers, the military, civil defence, FRSC, immigration and civilians have lost their lives to bandits and terrorists as a result of constant attacks on checkpoints at border areas in Kebbi State,” he said.
He added that the summit is part of the Customs headquarters’ efforts to engage stakeholders in affected states and develop strategies to curb attacks and other criminal activities.
In his remarks, the Customs Area Comptroller in Kebbi, Mahmoud Ibrahim Matawalle, praised Governor Nasir Idris for supporting security agencies and approving the hosting of the summit in the state.
Matawalle also thanked the governor for donating two operational vehicles to the command, which will enhance surveillance along border communities.
He assured that the command will continue to collaborate with other security agencies to improve security across the state.
