ABUJA — The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has expressed support for the House of Representatives Minority Caucus’ demand that President Bola Tinubu either demonstrate effective leadership or step down.
Chief Peter Ameh, Acting National Chairman of CUPP, stated the position in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja.
The opposition coalition said it fully agrees with the Minority Caucus and believes the current administration must meet the challenges facing Nigerians or allow new leaders to deliver results.
“In a sane climate, any elected official who refuses to produce results of good governance that will improve the lives of the people should honourably resign,” Ameh said.
CUPP called on President Tinubu and his administration to take immediate action to address the nation’s security problems, economic difficulties, and the overall welfare of citizens.
“Leadership is not a right but a responsibility. Where this responsibility is not being discharged effectively, the honourable path is resignation,” Ameh added.
The coalition reaffirmed its commitment to promoting good governance, accountability, and the welfare of Nigerians.
“We urge the President to heed this call and take immediate, visible steps to alleviate the suffering of citizens across the country,” he said.
Ameh further said that CUPP would continue to monitor developments in the country closely and would not hesitate to speak out in what it described as the best interest of the Nigerian people.
