Court adjourns Shinkafi’s suit against INEC, APC, Senator Kaura to June 25

By Idris Salisu, Gusau

GUSAU — A Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has postponed a lawsuit filed by APC senatorial aspirant Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura to June 25 2026.

Shinkafi alleges that the senatorial primary elections in Zamfara North were not conducted, a claim he says violates the APC constitution.

Justice Hassan Dikko, presiding over the case, noted that INEC and the APC were absent from the hearing. He therefore adjourned the proceedings to allow the defendants to be properly served and to file their responses.

After the court session, Barrister J.C. Shaka, counsel for the third defendant, informed reporters that he had appeared in court and submitted motions to dismiss the suit. He contended that the plaintiff had no valid grounds to challenge the primary that produced Senator Kaura as the party’s candidate.

Barrister Bello Galadi, Shinkafi’s counsel, explained that the adjournment was intended to give the remaining defendants a chance to present their positions. “We continue to demand justice for the alleged irregularities in the senatorial primary that elected the third defendant,” Galadi said. “The exercise was marred by violations of the rules governing the conduct of the election.”

The case is scheduled to resume on June 25, when the court will hear all parties after service and filing of responses.
