U.S. Representative Barry Moore has urged that immigrants who come to the United States as religious workers formally reject Sharia law and affirm their loyalty to the U.S. Constitution.
He made the remark on Wednesday in a post on X, where he introduced a proposed piece of legislation named the “CRUSADE Act.”
Sharia law derives from Islamic teachings and is implemented in various ways across Muslim‑majority nations and communities around the globe.
Moore says the bill aims to curb the promotion of religious doctrines he believes conflict with American constitutional principles.
He wrote, “Sharia law justifies the persecution of religious minorities, restrictions on women, and the elevation of religious law above all.”
He added, “This is why I introduced the Crusade Act.”
Moore further stated, “Immigrants entering our nation as religious workers should disavow Sharia and uphold the Constitution.”
The U.S. Constitution protects freedom of religion under the First Amendment.
Federal law and visa regulations dictate the immigration rules for religious workers.
