The House of Representatives has called an emergency session to debate a bill that would extend the implementation period of the capital component of the 2025 budget by three additional months.

A notice dated 11 June 2026, signed by Acting Clerk Ibrahim Sidi, informed lawmakers that the emergency sitting would take place on Monday 15 June 2026 at 11:00 a.m., in accordance with Order Five, Rule 2(2) of the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives.

The notice read: “The purpose of the Emergency Sitting is to consider the Appropriation (REPEAL and Enactment) Act, 2025 (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2026 to further extend the implementation of the Capital aspect of the Budget from 30th June to 30th September 2026.”

The proposed amendment would give Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) extra time to finish ongoing capital projects and fully deploy the funds allocated for infrastructure and other development programmes under the 2025 fiscal framework.

Acting Clerk Sidi urged members to attend, stating in the notice that “All Honourable Members are required to take note and accord the Sitting priority attendance, please.”

If the amendment passes both chambers of the National Assembly and receives assent from President Bola Tinubu, it will extend the life of the capital component of the 2025 budget until 30 September 2026.

The emergency session underscores the legislature’s commitment to completing critical government projects and improving the implementation of capital expenditure nationwide.
