Come clean on PFIPC scandal –  Kwankwasiyya tells Nigerian govt 

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has called on the Presidency to provide a full explanation over the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), saying the matter has gone beyond the actions of one individual and has become a test of public accountability.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, the movement said it was deeply concerned about the unfolding controversy, describing it as one that raises serious questions about transparency and governance.

According to the statement, while the Presidency has publicly maintained that the PFIPC never existed and has distanced itself from anyone claiming to represent the council, reports suggesting that more than N1 billion was allocated to an entity bearing the same or a similar name in the 2026 Appropriation Act require clear explanations.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement has watched with profound concern the unfolding controversy surrounding the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). What initially appeared to be a case involving an individual has now developed into a serious test of the credibility, transparency, and accountability of the Federal Government,” the statement said.

The movement argued that the controversy should not be treated as the misconduct of a single person but as a matter deserving public scrutiny.

“This controversy cannot simply be dismissed as the misconduct of one individual. Nigerians are entitled to know: If the council never existed, how did it find its way into the national budget? Who proposed and approved the allocation? Which government offices processed the documentation? Was any public money released or committed? If official documents were allegedly forged, how were they used for such a long period without detection?”

It stressed that these were not partisan questions but issues of public accountability that deserve honest answers.

The group also said the administration of President Bola Tinubu came into office with promises of institutional reform, transparency and responsible governance.

The statement further added that the government’s response to the PFIPC controversy would determine how committed it is to those promises.

“The Tinubu administration came into office promising renewed hope, institutional reform, and responsible governance. Those promises must now be measured against its willingness to provide full disclosure on this and other matters. Silence, contradictions, or attempts to shift responsibility will only deepen public distrust,” it said.

The movement warned that the controversy could also affect Nigeria’s image before the international community.

According to the statement, foreign investors pay close attention not only to economic policies but also to the credibility of government institutions.

It said uncertainty over the authenticity of government agencies or official appointments could weaken investor confidence in Nigeria’s governance and business environment.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement therefore urged the Presidency to publish a comprehensive account of the matter, including how the budgetary provision originated, the administrative processes involved and the measures being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

It also called on the National Assembly, anti-corruption agencies and other relevant oversight bodies to carry out an independent investigation into every aspect of the controversy.

“We therefore call on the Presidency to publish a comprehensive account of the facts, including the origin of the budgetary provision, the administrative processes involved, and the actions being taken to prevent similar occurrences,” the statement said.

The movement reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in public office, insisting that public funds belong to Nigerians and must be properly accounted for.

“We will continue to demand transparency, not because of politics, but because public office is a public trust. Every naira appropriated belongs to the Nigerian people, and every public institution must be accountable to them.

“No democracy can flourish where questions are discouraged or contradictions go unexplained. The Nigerian people deserve the truth, and they deserve it without delay,” the statement added.
