The Nigerian Youth Organisation (NYO), a coalition of youth groups, has urged President Bola Tinubu and security agencies to warn Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru about threats directed at opposition political parties in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
During a press conference in Abuja, Comrade Nasir Doka, the group's Deputy National President, asked security agencies to pay attention to the “inflammatory rhetoric” issued by Governor Nwifuru toward political actors in the state, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South‑East.
Doka warned that such threats signal danger and reminded public office holders that their words carry influence and that leadership entails responsibility.
Doka added that the governor’s remarks have raised alarm among many Nigerians, especially young people, who see the language as potentially threatening, intimidating, or contrary to democratic engagement.
“The Nigeria Youth Organization considers it necessary to draw national attention to the gravity of such rhetoric when it emanates from the office of a sitting governor,” he said.
The NYO stated that it “firmly believes that democracy is sustained by tolerance, dissent, criticism, and competition of ideas. No democracy can flourish where citizens become afraid to express political opinions. No democracy can thrive
