Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda has been selected as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.
Chinda became the sole contender after three other aspirants—Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Tonye Cole, and Alabo Dakorinama George‑Kelly—withdrawn from the race on Wednesday night.
According to Kwamoti Bitrus, the Chairman of the State Governorship Primary, the party received a total of 268,497 votes for Chinda as the only candidate.
Bitrus praised the large turnout of party members and the dedication of the agents involved in the process. He also thanked the State Chairman for creating a conducive environment for the primary.
Chinda was previously elected to the House of Representatives on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He represents the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency and serves as the Minority Leader of the 10th House of Representatives.
Chibike Ikenga, the state publicity secretary for the APC, stated that the party has been recalibrated in Rivers State. He added that Chinda’s candidacy demonstrates the party’s reorganisation and its potential to unify and drive development in the state.
