Chelsea is preparing to file a legal complaint against Manchester City over the club’s interest in former head coach Enzo Maresca, unless City offers compensation, reports the Sun.

Allegations that Maresca had spoken with City while still employed at Stamford Bridge have angered Chelsea officials.

With Maresca poised to replace the departing Pep Guardiola, the club may take action if the two sides cannot agree on compensation, according to the report.

Should an agreement not be reached, Chelsea could lodge a complaint with the Premier League, which would then investigate the matter.

Eghbali said at the CAA World Congress of Sports: “The change wasn’t the club’s decision, for reasons I can’t speak about legally.”

“I think the reasons will become kind of clear in due course. But no, it’s not a change we wanted to make.”

He also acknowledged that the upheaval has disrupted on‑field performances.

Eghbali added, “It’s a change that’s had a bit of a negative impact on the season, when you’re changing systems and personnel.”

“And it’s one we’ve got to fight our way out of.”

Maresca’s exit came as a major surprise, with little explanation given at the time.

SunSport reports that the Italian’s relationship with Chelsea chiefs deteriorated in December and turned into a war of words.

The situation worsened when Maresca claimed he endured his “worst 48 hours” at Stamford Bridge due to a lack of support after the Champions League defeat to Atalanta.

The Italian allegedly also ignored medical advice on player rest before the news broke that he was in talks with Manchester City and Juventus.

Maresca’s camp insisted they had informed the Blues about the discussions with other clubs at the time.
