Chelle Discusses World Cup Qualification and AFCON 2025 Setbacks in Unity Cup Interview

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has again apologized to Nigerians for the team’s failure to qualify for this year’s World Cup and for not winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking after the Super Eagles retained the Unity Cup with a 3‑0 victory over Jamaica in the final on Saturday, Chelle said: “I want to once again say sorry we didn’t go to the World Cup, this is my feeling, sorry we didn’t win the AFCON, I tried to do my job.”

“I want to say thank you for all the support that was put in the team and once again I will give everything to this national team. Football is football and everyday I try to improve like a man and a coach, so I’ll like to say thank you to this country.”
