Michael Carrick is expected to be recommended as Manchester United’s permanent manager by club officials after a dramatic turnaround in the team’s performance, reports said on Wednesday.
The 44‑year‑old assumed the role for the remainder of the season in January, following the contentious exit of Ruben Amorim, who had struggled during his brief tenure.
Under Carrick’s guidance, United secured Champions League qualification with three matches to spare, ending a two‑season absence from the competition.
Since his appointment on 13 January, Carrick has won 10 of 15 matches across all competitions, losing only twice, and has lifted the club from seventh to third place in the Premier League standings.
According to The Athletic, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox plan to recommend to co‑owner Jim Ratcliffe that Carrick be offered the position at an executive meeting later this week.
While the club has considered other candidates, Carrick has long been viewed as the leading choice and has received public support from several players.
In response to the speculation, some bookmakers have suspended betting on his appointment.
Carrick is scheduled to speak to the media on Friday ahead of the final home game of the season on Sunday, when United face Nottingham Forest.
