A retired Nigerian military officer, Captain Abdullahi Bakoji, has called the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar in a kidnappers’ den a national disgrace.

He made the remarks in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST on Saturday, following the burial of the retired Major General on the same day.

DAILY POST reports that Rabe and his wife were abducted in Katsina while traveling to Kaduna State.

The Katsina State government confirmed on Saturday that he died in the terrorists’ hideout, after two videos of the General and his wife were released by the bandits.

Captain Bakoji, a security analyst, said, “This should be a wake‑up call to the government and security agencies to revisit security tactics in this country.”

“This death has definitely affected serving soldiers and those retired, because it shows that even those who dedicated their lives to protecting the nation are not safe from insecurity,” he added.

He lamented that a retired Major General who served the nation could die in the hands of common terrorists, adding that the development shows what the common man endures every day in Nigeria.

According to him, “This shows there’s a massive gap in security tactics, especially in obtaining intelligence reports, deterring crimes before they happen and responding urgently to crimes.”

He called for greater synergy between security agencies and improved welfare for the military, as well as more economic stability in the nation.

Bakoji said poverty plays a huge role in fueling Nigeria’s insecurity and must be tackled at its root.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of Major General Rabe and for his family to bear the heavy loss at this trying time.
