Thousands of jubilant supporters turned out to welcome Cape Verde’s Blue Sharks on Sunday, filling Praia International Airport with flags and banners as the team returned from an unforgettable FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.
The Blue Sharks, whose remarkable run ended with a narrow 3-2 extra-time defeat to defending champions Argentina in the Round of 16, received a heroes’ welcome after exceeding all expectations in their maiden World Cup appearance.
The squad is scheduled to parade through the streets of the capital, Praia, before being received by President José Maria Neves and other senior government officials.
Cape Verde Capitate The World
Cape Verde captivated football fans around the world by reaching the knockout stages on their World Cup debut, earning widespread admiration for their fearless displays against some of the game’s biggest nations.
Their campaign came to a dramatic end in Miami, where they pushed Argentina all the way before Lionel Scaloni’s side secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory after extra time.
