Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes revealed that he felt “sad” when Declan Rice decided to join Arsenal.
Rice became the club’s most expensive signing after Arsenal paid £105 million for him in 2023.
The England midfielder has since become a central figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Prior to leaving West Ham, Rice was sought after by both Manchester United and Manchester City, who were reportedly interested.
“I already knew him from West Ham and we all recognized his qualities. I have always said that I thought Rice was a player who could thrive at Manchester United,” Fernandes said on JoelBeya TV. “I was really sad when he chose to go to Arsenal. I don’t know if there was an opportunity or chance to come to Manchester United, but I always thought he would be the perfect fit for our club.”
