Brentford defender opts for Italy over Nigeria

Brentford defender Michael Kayode has announced that he intends to play for Italy at the senior international level.

Kayode was born in Borgomanero, Italy, to Nigerian parents.

Although the right‑back has already represented Italy in youth competitions, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level.

Former Fiorentina player Kayode expressed his eagerness to make his debut for the Azzurri.

“I will always give priority to Italy: even at youth level, I grew up wearing the Azzurri shirt,” Kayode told Tuttosport.

“I hope to achieve this dream as soon as possible, but I have no doubt about which path to choose.”

Kayode is expected to be called up to Italy’s squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece in June.
