Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum praised the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary elections that took place throughout the state.
He made the remarks on Saturday after watching the APC primary for the Gubio, Kaga, and Magumeri Federal Constituency, which was held in Magumeri.
Zulum stated that the process followed the Electoral Act and the APC constitution, which permits consensus arrangements among candidates.
Two candidates withdrew in favour of the incumbent lawmaker Hon. Usman Zannah, who was then confirmed as the party’s candidate.
Zulum congratulated Zannah and praised the withdrawing candidates, calling their decision a sign of party unity.
He thanked APC members and local residents for maintaining peace during the exercise.
Zulum clarified that the consensus arrangement was voluntary and did not bar any aspirant from participating.
Hon. Yuguda Saleh Vungas, chairman of the APC Primary Elections Committee for the constituency, said stakeholders had chosen consensus as the selection method and praised the peaceful conduct.
The primary was monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and representatives from the APC national headquarters.
