JOS—Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has sent Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, Dankombo Morris, to Plateau State after the recent attack on the Kawel community in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area.
The move aims to assess the on‑ground security situation, restore peace, and prevent further attacks.
The IGP also authorized extra police personnel and operational assets, such as Police Mobile Force operatives and tactical teams, to bolster security in the affected communities.
On Tuesday, AIG Morris visited Bokkos with members of the Plateau State Police Command management team and met local government officials, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders.
Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Amalau Samuel Amalau, praised the Inspector-General for the swift intervention, calling the attack a tragic and unprovoked act of violence.
He revealed that victims had been buried and called for a sustained deployment of security personnel and operational assets to prevent further attacks.
“We appreciate the prompt response of the Inspector-General of Police and appeal for continued security presence to safeguard lives and property in our communities,” he said.
President of the Women in Politics Initiative, Plateau State chapter, Mrs. Hajara Yunana, also spoke, expressing concern about the attack’s impact on women and families.
She urged the police to translate their assurances into concrete action and called for the deployment of modern policing technology to improve security in vulnerable communities.
“Women and families have been deeply affected by this incident. We urge security agencies to ensure that their promises translate into visible action on the ground,” she said.
Yunana also urged residents to remain calm and to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
Addressing stakeholders, AIG Morris conveyed the Inspector-General’s condolences to the Plateau State Government and to Bokkos residents, especially those in the Kawel community.
