It is not every day that a community witnesses an event capable of inspiring a generation. The recent launch of three books by renowned business executive, humanitarian, and community leader, Dr. Jerry Oluranti, was one such occasion. For me, it was more than a ceremonial unveiling of books; it was a masterclass in leadership, philanthropy, faith, and purposeful living.
The first lesson was Dr. Oluranti’s unwavering commitment to community development. As the Chief Executive Officer of Complete Care Support Services Inc., Maryland, USA, and Amazon Luxury Apartments, Ilaro, he had every reason to host the launch in Lagos, Abuja, or even the United States. Many business executives of his stature would naturally choose such prestigious destinations for an event of this magnitude. Instead, he deliberately chose Ilaro. That singular decision speaks volumes about his loyalty to his roots and his determination to bring global-standard events back home.
Even more remarkable was his ability to attract distinguished personalities to Ilaro. The event was graced by representatives of former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, MFR (the Olu of Ilaro), alongside several respected traditional rulers.
Also present was the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi. The atmosphere was further enriched by the presence of celebrated gospel minister Chigozie Wisdom, gospel artist SOGA, and comedian Asiri Nla, among many other distinguished guests. It was undoubtedly one of the biggest intellectual and literary gatherings ever hosted in Ilaro.
Another striking feature of the event was Dr. Oluranti’s bold declaration of his Christian faith. In an era when many wealthy and influential individuals prefer to separate their public image from their religious convictions, he chose to do the opposite.
The programme seamlessly blended corporate excellence with spiritual worship. Looking at the official event poster, one could immediately tell that this was a man unapologetically committed to Christ. At several moments, one could easily mistake the book launch for a gospel concert, as gospel ministers like Minister Chigozie Wisdom and Minister Soga were invited to lead worship and inspire attendees. It was a refreshing reminder that professional success and unwavering faith can coexist beautifully.

Perhaps one of the greatest lessons from the day was the timeless principle that there is indeed blessing in giving. Dr. Jerry Oluranti has spent decades investing in people, supporting communities, and changing lives. It was therefore heartwarming to witness an outpouring of love from individuals and organisations who came not merely to celebrate him but also to honour him through generous donations. Community associations, financial institutions, close friends, business associates, and even his daughter, Sharon, all contributed towards the success of the event. It was a beautiful illustration that those who consistently sow into the lives of others will, in due season, reap honour and appreciation.
Ironically, despite being the celebrant, Dr. Oluranti could not stop giving. Even at an event where guests had gathered to support him financially, he turned around to bless others. He announced a donation of one million naira each to the Overall Best Graduating National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, now the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro.
That singular gesture revealed the mindset of a man who derives genuine fulfilment not from accumulating wealth but from creating opportunities for others. It also deepened my curiosity to read his book, The Psychology of Giving, because it is evident that giving is not merely something he practises, it is who he is.
However, amidst the excitement, one observation left me deeply concerned. Popular Nigerian rapper Ycee once spoke about the “Olodo Uprising Syndrome,” lamenting the declining interest of young people in intellectual pursuits. Sadly, that reality was evident at this event. While the hall was filled with accomplished professionals, community leaders, and older adults, the number of young people, students, and Gen-Z attendees was noticeably low. Too many young people today appear more attracted to parties, nightlife, and social media trends than to opportunities that can reshape their thinking and future. Those who missed this book launch did not merely miss an event; they missed an opportunity to gain life-changing wisdom from a man whose journey embodies resilience, discipline, and excellence.
Inspired by this experience, I have resolved to establish a Book and Creative Club, beginning with Dr. Oluranti’s three newly launched books: The Psychology of Giving, The Power of Starting Small, and The Leadership of Small Things. The objective is simple—to gather young creatives, professionals, students, and intellectuals who desire personal growth, meaningful conversations, and transformational leadership. In a society where our reading culture continues to decline, yet many lament poverty and limited opportunities, learning directly from accomplished individuals who have successfully navigated life’s challenges is an invaluable privilege.
Dr. Jerry Oluranti’s life also serves as a timely reminder that genuine wealth can be built legally, ethically, and through years of consistency, resilience, hard work, and integrity. At a time when many young people are increasingly exposed to narratives that glorify fraud, prostitution, and other illicit means of acquiring wealth, his story offers a refreshing alternative. He was once an ordinary hustler like countless Nigerian youths, but through determination, discipline, service to humanity, and unwavering faith, he transformed his destiny.
As I left the event, I realised I had attended more than a book launch. I had witnessed the celebration of a life devoted to service, generosity, leadership, and purpose. If the lessons from that day are embraced by more young people, perhaps we will not only produce more successful entrepreneurs but also more compassionate leaders committed to transforming their communities.
Dr. Jerry Oluranti did not simply launch three books in Ilaro; he launched ideas, challenged mindsets, and reignited hope that greatness can emerge from humble beginnings. That, perhaps, is the greatest lesson of all.
For those inspired by the event, the journey should continue through reading and reflection. The real value of Dr. Jerry Oluranti’s message is in applying the lessons in his books.
His three titles: The Psychology of Giving, The Power of Starting Small, and The Leadership of Small Things are available at Amazon Luxury Apartments, Ilaro, and on Amazon Kindle for readers everywhere.
I am also launching a Book and Creative Club for people interested in reading, creativity, leadership, entrepreneurship, and personal growth. It will be a space to share ideas, challenge perspectives, and grow together.
Membership is open to all. Age is not a barrier. Religion is not a barrier. Educational background is not a barrier. Social status is not a barrier. What matters is a willingness to learn and improve.
Our society needs informed minds, ethical leaders, and committed citizens. If Dr. Jerry Oluranti’s life teaches us anything, it is that greatness is built through learning, discipline, faith, and service. That journey may begin with opening one of his books and joining a community of readers determined to make a difference.
