Berger Paints Nigeria Plc topped the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) gainers’ list over the weekend, with its shares surging 55.57 % to close at N168.95 from an opening price of N108.60. The rally was driven by strong earnings and a promising dividend outlook, which attracted heightened investor interest.
Investor confidence grew ahead of the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for tomorrow, where shareholders are expected to approve a final dividend of N1.25 per share for the 2025 financial year. Combined with the interim dividend of N0.40 already paid, Berger Paints’ total dividend payout for the year will amount to N1.65 per share.
The stock’s performance was underpinned by impressive 2025 financial results, showing robust revenue growth, improved profitability, and effective cost management amid inflationary pressures.
Revenue rose about 20 % from N10.83 billion in 2024 to N12.99 billion in 2025, while gross profit increased from N3.84 billion to N5.72 billion. Profit after tax climbed sharply to N1.57 billion from N610.9 million the previous year.
The company credited its results to stronger sales, enhanced operational efficiency, better treasury management, higher finance income, and disciplined cost controls.
Analysts noted that the combination of solid earnings growth and dividend expectations spurred renewed buying activity, as investors positioned themselves ahead of the AGM and the dividend qualification date.
Berger Paints outperformed other top gainers on the exchange, with SCOA Nigeria Plc up 45.92 % to close at N33.05, and DAAR Communications Plc rising 42.41 % to N2.25 per share.
