Benue State officials have announced that the state’s Golden Jubilee celebrations will culminate this weekend with a grand finale and an interdenominational thanksgiving service in Makurdi.
On Friday, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, released a statement noting that the week‑long festivities celebrating Benue State’s 50th anniversary commenced earlier this week under Governor Hyacinth Alia’s leadership.
The statement said the celebrations will reach their peak on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at IBB Square in Makurdi, where attendees can expect cultural performances, ceremonial parades, and reflections on the state’s history since its founding.
Officials highlighted that the event would honor Benue’s diverse cultural heritage and showcase its role as one of Nigeria’s foremost agricultural states and a significant political force.
On Sunday, June 28, the festivities will extend to a combined event commemorating Benue State’s Golden Jubilee, Governor Alia’s third anniversary in office, and his 60th birthday.
The statement added that an interdenominational thanksgiving service will take place at IBB Square beginning at 9:00 a.m. to honor these milestones.
It also noted that Governor Alia’s administration has prioritized the Benue First agenda, focusing on infrastructure development, civil service reforms, economic revitalization, and human capital development.
The government has invited the public to join the celebrations as Benue marks 50 years of existence, reflects on its accomplishments, and looks toward the future.
