Benue schools mark 2026 Children’s Day with statewide celebrations

On Wednesday, schools throughout Benue State joined the national observance of Children’s Day 2026, engaging in a range of activities designed to support children’s welfare, inclusion, and development.

At JS Tarka Stadium in Gboko, teachers and pupils from several schools took part in a program that included march‑pasts, performances, and other events aimed at celebrating children and fostering social interaction among students.

Children’s Day events were also held in other parts of the state.

In Jato‑Aka, nursery, primary and secondary schools gathered on the playground of NKST Pilot Primary School for march‑pasts, cultural dances, relay races, football and handball competitions.

Similar celebrations were reported at Vandeikya Township Stadium in Vandeikya and at Chief Emmanuel Akume Atongo Township Stadium in Katsina‑Ala, where schools and children assembled for the annual event.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, in a Children’s Day message signed by Tersoo Kula, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for children.

The governor emphasized that the administration remains focused on education, child welfare, and creating opportunities for children across the state.

Children’s Day is observed annually in Nigeria on 27 May to honor children and promote their welfare, education, and development.
