The All Progressives Congress (APC) Taraba state chairman, Abubakar Bawa, highlighted the essential role of local government chairmen in ensuring that government policies are effectively carried out at the grassroots level.
Bawa made the statement on Wednesday in Jalingo during a strategic meeting with the chairmen of the state’s 16 local government councils.
The gathering, as reported by our correspondent, aimed to strengthen party coordination and improve collaboration in governance across the state.
“Local government chairmen, as the third tier of government, are the administrative authorities closest to the people and therefore carry significant responsibility for driving development and implementing state government programmes within their respective councils,” Bawa said.
He urged the council chairmen to actively support and promote party activities at the ward level while maintaining close cooperation with party structures throughout their local government areas.
Bawa also stressed the importance of unity and commitment among party stakeholders to achieve effective governance and sustained political stability in the state.
Representing the council chairmen, Moses Maihankali, chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Taraba and chairman of Kurmi Local Government Council, praised the APC leadership for its inclusive style of governance and for involving local government officials in decision‑making processes.
Maihankali assured the party leadership of the council chairmen’s loyalty, cooperation, and full support for both the state government and the APC in advancing developmental programmes across the state.
