A former governorship aspirant in Bauchi State, Farouk Mustapha, has denied reports that he was being considered for a vice‑presidential nomination by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde.
In a statement released on Friday, Mustapha called the social‑media rumors “false,” saying that no discussion had taken place between him and the APM presidential hopeful about a potential running‑mate arrangement.
He added, “My attention has been drawn to speculations making the rounds on social media alleging that the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement is considering me as his running mate in the forthcoming election.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state categorically that no such arrangement has been discussed with me, nor have I given my consent to any such proposition,” he said.
The former aspirant also said he was content with whatever position God had destined for him and had not held talks with anyone in the party about the vice‑presidential slot.
“At no point have I had any discussion with anyone, whether within the APM or with its presidential candidate, regarding the position of running mate. Therefore, any claim suggesting that I have agreed to such an arrangement is entirely false and without foundation,” he said.
Mustapha explained that the clarification was prompted by inquiries from journalists, supporters and associates who had contacted him about the reports.
He cited a Hausa proverb, “Kowa ya san matar auren sa” (everyone knows his own bride), to emphasize the need to clear the air for those affected by the speculation.
He urged his supporters, friends, well‑wishers and residents of Bauchi State to disregard the rumors, describing them as mere gossip.
The politician also revealed that he is currently in Saudi Arabia, where he is praying and seeking divine guidance on his future political direction.
He thanked his supporters for their concern, support and prayers.
