The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a vigorous campaign to crack down on unregistered vehicles and motorists who use concealed or fake number plates. Mobile courts have been set up throughout the state to expedite the prosecution of offenders.

The initiative follows a directive from Inspector‑General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu and is intended to improve road safety and bolster security in Bauchi.

Spokesman SP Nafiu Habib announced that the police have partnered with the state judiciary to establish mobile courts at the five Area Command headquarters and other key locations in the Bauchi metropolis.

These courts have begun hearing cases involving motorists who drive without valid registration, who cover or obscure their number plates, or who use vehicles with counterfeit or unauthorized registration numbers.

Commissioner of Police Sani‑Omolori Aliyu warned that unregistered and unidentifiable vehicles pose serious security risks, noting that such cars are often used in crimes such as kidnapping and armed robbery.

He clarified that the enforcement effort is aimed at protecting lives and property, not at intimidating law‑abiding motorists.

The commissioner cautioned that any vehicle found in violation will be impounded and its operators will be tried before the mobile courts.

Penalties will include fines and other sanctions as prescribed by motor vehicle registration and licensing laws and police regulations.

Police urged vehicle owners and drivers to regularise their documents, display number plates correctly, and avoid covering, altering or defacing registration numbers.

They also called on residents to cooperate with officers conducting the operation, emphasizing that the enforcement campaign will continue without compromise.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security in the state and to combating criminal activities linked to the use of untraceable vehicles.
