Bauchi Police Investigate Fake Employment Letters

The Nigeria Police are investigating a wave of counterfeit appointment letters that have circulated throughout Bauchi State.

Command Public Relations Officer Nafiu Habib said that the suspected fraudster, Saleem Alhassan of Zango Area in Bauchi Local Government, has been taken into custody for a discreet inquiry. He was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department on 18 May 2026 by the Area Commander of Bauchi Metropolis to facilitate a thorough investigation.

The Daily Post notes that a similar case arose in the state two weeks earlier after a complaint from the Office of the Head of Service, leading to the arrest and prosecution of two suspects.

According to the statement, five forged temporary appointment letters were seized from Alhassan. Preliminary findings suggest that he fabricated and printed these documents, claiming they were issued by a government office in 2025. He allegedly collected between N500,000 and N750,000 from unsuspecting victims by promising them employment.

Commissioner of Police Sani‑Omolori Aliyu cautioned the public against dealing with individuals or groups that offer jobs in return for money.
