The Nigeria Police Force in Bauchi State has launched a Safe School Initiative Implementation task force to bolster security around educational institutions and safeguard students from escalating threats.

During the inauguration held in Bauchi on Thursday, Commissioner of Police Sani‑Omolori Aliyu highlighted the rising number of attacks and criminal activities aimed at schools nationwide.

He noted that schools are now exposed to crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, violent assaults, cultism, drug abuse, and other dangers that can disrupt learning and instill fear among students, teachers, parents and guardians.

Aliyu emphasized that the Bauchi State Command is dedicated to protecting schools and stressed that safeguarding educational facilities should not rest solely on security agencies.

“In response to these challenges, the Inspector‑General of Police has directed commands across the country to strengthen security around schools and educational institutions through proactive policing, inter‑agency collaboration, intelligence‑led operations and stakeholder engagement,” he said.

He explained that state police commands nationwide have formed multi‑stakeholder task force committees to implement the Safe Schools Initiative in line with the Inspector‑General’s directive.

“We must work together to identify vulnerable areas, strengthen preventive measures, improve intelligence sharing, establish effective emergency response mechanisms, and ensure that our schools remain safe and conducive environments for teaching and learning,” he added.

The commissioner urged committee members to perform their duties with patriotism, commitment and a strong sense of responsibility.
