Bandits kill Islamic cleric in Kwara community

Suspected bandits killed prominent Islamic cleric Alfa Iliasu in Ilesha‑Baruba, Baruten Local Government Area, Kwara State.

According to reports received by DAILY POST, the attackers entered the cleric’s home on Saturday and struck him on the head with a cutlass.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but he died before treatment could be administered.

Alfa Iliasu was well known in Baruten and surrounding communities for his spiritual work and his reputed ability to identify witches, a skill that had earned him considerable public attention over the years.

Three suspects were involved in the attack. One was reportedly killed at the scene, another was arrested and taken into police custody for further investigation, and the third suspect has escaped and remains at large.

Family members, friends, Islamic scholars and sympathizers gathered to pay their last respects, and the cleric was buried at the Ilesha‑Baruba Muslim Cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.

Efforts to contact the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, at the time of this report were unsuccessful.
