The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Borno State has announced Babagana Buhari as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general election, following his victory in the party’s primary election.
Returning Officer Adamu Mustapha declared Buhari the winner on Monday night after he received 71,867 votes.
Mustapha reported that the primary had 102,900 registered voters, with 85,567 delegates accredited to vote.
Buhari defeated his rivals, Sanusi Kashim Ibrahim, who received 1,033 votes, and Attom Muhammad Magira, who polled 4,033 votes.
“By the powers vested in me by the constitution of the ADC and other regulations, I hereby declare Babagana Buhari, who scored the highest votes with 71,867, as the winner of the Borno State ADC gubernatorial direct primaries,” Mustapha said.
The party also confirmed its consensus candidates for the three senatorial districts in the state. Baba Gana Zanna will contest Borno Central, Idris Mamman will run for Borno South, and Bulama Fugu Ibrahim will vie for Borno North.
Speaking shortly after the announcement, ADC Borno Organising Secretary Muhammed Bolori expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the upcoming elections. Bolori said the adoption of consensus candidates for the senatorial seats was intended to strengthen unity within the ADC ahead of the polls.
