Datti Baba Ahmed, who served as the spokesperson for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, has clarified why leading politicians Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso chose not to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Commenting on the matter, Baba Ahmed said that, although the PRP has a longstanding ideological foundation and organizational framework, it did not match the present ambitions and political strategies of the two figures.
“Both Obi and Kwankwaso already had established political movements and strong support bases under their respective platforms, making a switch to PRP unnecessary and politically unrealistic at the time.”
He observed that contemporary Nigerian politics is driven more by the strength of coalitions and existing party structures than by pure ideological sentiment, and that major political actors typically prefer to consolidate their influence within established platforms rather than move to smaller parties.
