At AVEVA World 2026 in Milan, Italy, AVEVA, a global leader in industrial software, and IMD, a leading business school, unveiled the first Industrial Intelligence Report on Digital Ecosystems and the Future of Connected Industries.
During a fireside chat on the mainstage, AVEVA CEO Caspar Herzberg discussed the report’s findings with IMD Professor Mike Wade. The study is based on more than 275 interviews with leaders from 12 sectors worldwide.
The report combines quantitative data and in‑depth interviews with global experts to show how organisations can use industrial intelligence to create, manage, and expand business ecosystems.
Key findings include that 74 % of leaders view digital ecosystems as a top strategic priority, yet only 27 % report sharing data extensively with ecosystem partners. Case studies highlight the gap between ambition and execution, citing integration complexity, legacy systems, and weak governance as common obstacles.
Herzberg said, “With this collaboration with IMD, our ambition is not merely to understand the motivations behind the move to digital ecosystems, but to define the frameworks, competencies and leadership practices that will concretely enable companies to transcend silos and build more adaptive, ecosystem‑driven operating models.”
