Former Senator Nkechi Nwogu, who represented Abia Central, and former federal constituency member Sam Onuigbo, who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia, were unable to secure the All Progressive Congress (APC) Senate ticket for Abia Central on Monday.
Both candidates were defeated by Emeka Atuma in the primary election.
Atuma, a former Member of the House of Representatives, won the primary with a total of 36,935 votes cast across six local government areas: Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa North, and Isiala Ngwa South.
Nkechi Nwogu, who previously served in the House of Representatives and as Abia Central Senator, received 11,451 votes.
Sam Onuigbo, a two‑time former House of Representatives member for Ikwuano/Umuahia, garnered 5,833 votes.
The results were announced by Collation Officer Thomas Nkoro in Umuahia.
In related news, the APC Abia State chapter has notified all aspirants who participated in the House of Representatives Primary Elections across the state that the National Assembly Primaries Appeal Committee has begun hearing complaints.
Aspirants who are dissatisfied with any aspect of the primary process are urged to formally submit their grievances to the committee.
The Abia committee is chaired by Chris Dajan, with Martha Moses, Obioma Madukwe, and Uzoma Ogu serving as members.
