Attack on Niger airport kills 11 soldiers and two civilians, says Defence Ministry

An assault on the international airport in Niamey's capital early Thursday resulted in the deaths of at least 11 soldiers and two civilians, according to the defence ministry. The ministry also reported that 22 attackers were killed.

A large army operation is underway, and the airport, which the ministry says is fully secure, remains open to air traffic, it added in a TV statement.
