Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary in Ebonyi State, receiving 15,300 votes in the statewide exercise.
The result was announced at Preston Hotel, the collation centre for the primary.
According to the Ebonyi State Presidential Primary Election Committee, Atiku defeated former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who obtained 2,200 votes, while Muhammad Hayatudeen polled 200 votes.
The committee reported that Ebonyi State had 18,891 registered voters for the exercise, which covered 171 wards in 13 local government areas. Of those, 17,700 voters were accredited.
Committee chairman and ADC National Vice Chairman (Diaspora) Fred Onwe said that Atiku’s vote total made him the state’s presidential nominee.
State Chairman Silas Joseph Onu praised the team for their “uncommon commitment and dedication” amid heavy rainfall during the exercise.
Onwe also congratulated the winner and other aspirants for their conduct and perseverance throughout the process.
